How BCPS Grades Are Calculated
Convert Percentages to Letter Grades
Each quarter score and exam score is first converted to a letter grade (A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, or F) using the standard BCPS grading scale.
Assign Point Values
Each letter grade is converted to points. For a rotator schedule, each quarter is worth up to 12 points and the final exam is worth up to 8 points, for a maximum of 32 total points. For a block schedule, the class grade is worth up to 24 points plus 8 for the exam.
Total the Points
Add up all the points from your quarters and exam. Then look up the total in the final grade table to determine your semester letter grade.
Apply the Two-Thirds Rule
Regardless of point totals, if two or three of your three grades (Q1, Q2, Exam OR Class, Exam) are an F, your semester grade is automatically an F. This rule does not apply to EOC courses.
